What's embossing?
Embossing is a technique used in printing and graphic design to create a raised or three-dimensional effect on paper, fabric, or other materials. It involves pressing a design or pattern into a surface, creating a raised image or text.
In printing, embossing is often used to add depth and texture to a design, such as creating a raised logo on a business card or letterhead. It can be used on its own or in combination with other techniques, such as foil stamping or debossing.
Embossing can also be used in other areas, such as in leatherwork, where it can create decorative patterns or designs on leather products like wallets, belts, and handbags. In art, embossing can be used to create relief prints or sculptures by pressing a design into a material like clay or metal.
There are different types of embossing techniques, including blind embossing (where the design is raised without any ink or foil), registered embossing (where the embossed design is aligned with printed ink), and sculptured embossing (where the design has different levels of depth to create a more detailed 3D effect).
